Tara has been providing therapy for children and adults in Butte County for the past 16 years. With compassion and kindness she works with children, teenagers, and adults who are facing challenges in their lives such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and divorce.
Tara loves to work with families, especially young children and their parents. Being a parent herself, she understands that parenthood is a journey that is wonderful and amazing yet also can bring challenges and pain to the parent, child, or both. Tara specializes in enhancing and improving attachment and bonding between children and their parents. She believes that having a healthy attachment between a parent and child reduces family stress and can help pave the way for a child’s life-long mental health. She uses the Theraplay Method, a relationship-focused treatment that actively involves the parent and child in the sessions. Tara is also trained in Parent Child Interaction Therapy, which teaches parents helpful ways to manage behavior of their children.
Tara earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in Journalism at California State University, Chico in 1994. After working for several years she returned to pursue a Masters of Science degree in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy and graduated in 2001 from California State University, Chico.
Tara grew up in the Bay Area and fell in love with Chico over 20 years ago while attending college there. She is proud to call Chico her home and to be part of such a supportive and loving community of people. She has three children.
